Typical Global Village Teleport Product...
In my hand is my old Global Village Teleport Bronze modem, the biggest piece of shit I have ever owned. As a matter of fact it was replaced 4 times, until the people at Best Buy replaced it for free(under warranty) with a US Robotics 14.4 which I now use on my Mac Plus.
I also purchased a Fast Mac V.34 for my Performa. Never again will I use a Global Village product.
- The "Teleport Bronze Modem," is in fact called a Performa Bronze II. It was produced by Global Village exclusively for Performa Products through a licensing agreement with Apple Computer What does this mean? Well basically, Apple goofed. This Performa Bronze, and others like it are about as useful as a hooker is to the Pope. My particular modem ran at an astonishing 2400 baud. I was not upset with the speed. I still remember when 300 baud was like having a Corvette. My argument lies rather with the Manufacturer, Global Village. This company does not service what it sells. They have no toll-free service numbers for support. They blame problems with their worthless excuse for a modem on everyone else. Their software has some neat features, but is as compatible as Valium and vodka. Their products are cheaply produced and about as well constructed as paper toilet. The list of complaints goes on and on.
- I am not here to bash Global Village. I am just expressing an opinion about a product I was not happy with. To sum it all up, I would still like to here other opinions with regard to this product, and perhaps some new uses for the old modem. I have already been told it makes a great door stop.
Or, perhaps you have a Performa Bronze II horror story...
